Our History

Capstone Church began with 17 people in 2002 who were led by God to plant a church in Anderson, SC that would connect with the disconnected, the marginalized, the lost and the unloved to demonstrate God’s love, acceptance and invitation. The church met in homes, parks, schools and a movie theater prior to 2009 when Central Baptist Church voted to merge with Capstone, giving the property at 708 W Whitner St as permanent location for worship, ministry training and refuge for those in need.

Capstone Church seeks to strike a balance with a geographical ministry responsibility in the center of the city as well as encouraging each attender to be the missionary where they live. Capstone Church has people from all walks of life, a wide generational spectrum, many college students, a diverse ethnic composition and more than 75 % that are not from the area. We are aliens and strangers but still family together.

We partner with many local churches and organizations to love our community. We also have a 14 year plus relationship with a group of house churches in Cuba that we work with and support. Additionally, we have connections of service over the past 15 years to places like Alaska, New Orleans, Haiti, Ukraine, Catawba Nation, and Nashville. We believe that mission is not what you do, it’s who you are. Mission is not a question, it’s an answer.
