Capstone Community Church began as a dream in fall 2001 as several families began meeting as a small group determined to make a difference in Anderson. The heartbeat of these individuals quickly became unified as they defined the mission they believed God had for this infant church. “To love people into the abundant life that comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ.”

Capstone was decidedly different from the beginning. Our teaching was relationship oriented, our group life was focused on being family together and our worship was uniquely edgy. We focus on teaching the Bible with relevant application to daily life, we focus on serving the under resourced. At Capstone people began to find a family that lived out their faith in practical ways. Capstone developed an identity by serving the community and sharing the love of Christ with neighbors. We began at LaQuinta Inn on Clemson Blvd, followed by 4 and half years of growth at Whitehall Elementary School and then a move in 2007 to AmStar Movie Theaters. Each location provided connections with neighbors and staff and was a unique draw to individuals and families from all walks of life, life stage and cultural background.

Over the past years we have served our National Guard Units, local fire departments, schools districts, YMCA, AnMed hospital, Anderson Parks and Recreation and Anderson University. We desire to build relationships that make a difference to make our community better and to share the love of Jesus Christ. We continue to offer summer day camps, Give Away Days, mission endeavors to Cuba and other points around the city and the globe. We advocate growing through serving.

In late 2008, a true gift was placed before Capstone. Central Baptist Church on Whitner St began a discussion with Capstone about assuming their property. This was truly an act of God to orchestrate a move to a facility in the heart of the area in which we were serving. In May 2009, Capstone took possession of the facility in the heart of the city, literally at the hub of our community and began renovations. We never saw ourselves obtaining a church, but rather an operations center. Church is not about where you meet, but about who you meet.

With renovations complete, the first Sunday at Whitner St was August 16. With hundreds in attendance we celebrated the great work of God. We have grown and seen new families join the mission God has laid before us. We have seen lives changed through the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We have sacrificed and given so that others may know and grow in their faith.
Capstone is entering a new chapter, we’d love it if you would come and be part of the story.
